How do we do it?

We start with a digital image file of the original oil painting you wish to reproduce. If the work is a museum piece and its digital image is archived in the Bridgeman Art Library, we negotiate the reproduction / copyright fee and use that photo. The digital image is then checked for suitability for reproduction. If not, we dispatch one of the Family Copies associate photographers to come to you to photograph the painting. Then begins the printing phase: Using canvas or art paper, Artists and photographers combine advanced technology and attention to detail to produce prints that are rich in colour with deep saturation and superior tonal ranges. Extensive testing guarantees 75 to 80 years before any visible fading will occur. The eight-colour prints offer 1,800 apparent dpi and produce the widest colour gamut in the industry. The final Hand-Finishing phase allows our Artists to recapture the subtle texture of the brush strokes and recreate any surface cracking.
